Thought you might like an update of where Travelers Rest stands in Budget Travel Magazine Best Small Town Contest.

Budget Travel Says: “Coolest Small Towns 2013 nominations has closed — we had 96,605 votes and 2,415 comments in support of 924 towns, our biggest turnout ever!
We’ll be reviewing all the nominations, along with any other gems we discover on our own, to narrow the list to 15 finalists — we’ll use your votes as a guide, but also look for diversity in geography, attractions, architecture, and more. We’ll post those in January and ask you to vote on the winner. Stay tuned!”

As  far as I can tell Travelers Rest came in number 15 in votes with 628 and 18 very good comments.  Here is our competition.

  1. Bay St. Louis, MS      9816 votes
  2. Watkins Glen, NY      8437
  3. Shepherdstown, WV  3207 they have a population of 1700 so I can’t imagine how they got that many votes
  4. Elkhard Lake, WI       2900
  5. Eagle River, WI          2608
  6. Camden, ME               2076
  7. Le Claire, IA               1847
  8. Mount Carroll, IL       1266
  9. Berkley Springs, WV    977  art community
  10. Mount Morris, NY        823
  11. Quincy, CA                   822
  12. Flagler Beach, FL         802
  13. Minocaqua, WI             777
  14. Belfast, ME                   749  seaport town
  15. Travelers Rest, SC        628

Thanks to all of you that voted and left comments.  I would guess the top 15 list comes out in early/mid December.   Let’s hope we make it to the new list and then voting starts again.

  1. I think we did pretty good! For the first couple of weeks we were under 100 votes. Big jump! I think it is exciting to see people show support and excitment over the growth in our town :) fingers crossed for January!
