How to freeze your credit information

You may have read that millions of SC state records got hacked back in October.   I just checked to see how we can freeze our credit information with the three main credit bureaus so no one can set up a credit card or other things without our knowledge.   It’s pretty easy.   Just go on line to each of these three websites and fill in the information for you and each of your family members that you want to protect.

• Equifax:, (800) 685-1111

• Experian:, (888) 397-3742

• TransUnion:, (800) 680-7289

If you  don’t have plans on taking out any new loans soon it shouldn’t be much of a problem.   If you want to take out a loan you have to unfreeze the accounts.   While that is a bit of a pain it is no where near as painful as trying to straighten out you credit after it has been hacked.
