OLLI hosted it’s first evening event on Saturday. Yummy wine and hor dourves for about 100 people and then a Chautauqua performance by Benedict Arnold, hero or traitor? Excellent presentation and I now much better understand his decision. Nothing is ever black and white. After that on to Newcomer and Cocktails R Us party in Travelers Rest. Made for a very fun and educational Saturday. Davey Crocket and Susan B. Anthony come in June so looking forward to seeing them.
Sunday afternoon we went to Furman Universities Pauper Players performance. They are an all student theater group. We have not seen them perform before and I was a little apprehensive how a non professional group would do presenting such an ambitious musical as Rent. They so exceeded my expectations. The treo live band and the singers could not have been any better. Dancers weren’t bad either. Furman is not that big a school and who knew there was that much strong talent? Furman has a music department an I assumed most of the eight lead singers were from the music department. Turns out only one was! I have not seen Rent before. What a story. I had heard it was bawdy and it was. One thing I can confidently say about most of the Furman theater performances is they don’t shy away from any topic. They really do shows that push the envelope, not the same old theater. I really, really enjoyed it. Can’t wait for their next performance in March. Good job Pauper Players
